The information given below shows that I have discovered 30 of my 32 three times great grandparents. The missing names belong to the parents of my 2x great grandfather David Stratton. My research suggests that David Stratton was born in Ireland in 1835. The question is where in Ireland and who were his parents and/or siblings?? Some family indicate he was from Cork, others suggest the name is really a Northern Ireland name. But as yet I have not found any definite records to confirm his origins.
I do know that when David arrived in Australia as young man, he had sufficient funds with him to establish a flour mill and build up a very successful business in flour milling. His obituary states that he learnt the trade of milling from his father "who owned 3 mills in Ireland." This fact however has still not enabled me to discover who his father was or where these mills were.
Is Stratton really David's surname? Is it a variation of his surname? Did David change his surname? These are all questions that I would like to answer so that I can, with certainty, discover David Stratton's origins?
